In my other life, I’m a naturalist and administrator for a local watershed agency. This weekend I took a full-day trip with the folks at Walnut Hill Tracking & Nature Center to track predators around the Quabbin Reservoir (central/western MA). We saw some amazing tracks (fisher, coyote, white-tailed deer, porcupine, long-tailed weasel, shrew), and a really fresh fisher-killed porcupine. Shortly following our discovery of the kill site, we (accidentally) tracked another porcupine to its den; Nick took photos which should be up on their site soon. So if you’ve got any interest in (live or dead) porcupines, check out their site!! We had a fantastic day, and if you’re into tracking, their programs are highly recommended.
