It has occurred to me that the pile of books on my small bedside table is getting rather precarious… I’m in the terrible habit of reading multiple books at once (does anyone else do this, or am I exhibiting symptoms of some disorder or other?), and as a result have more than my share of books ‘in the works’ beside my bed. The benefit to this (to me, at least) is that I can pick and choose, depending on my mood and level of fatigue. So what’s there? Let’s see…
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (yes, I’m prepping for the next and last installment – sob!)
- 20th Century Ghosts, by Joe Hill (I read Heart-Shaped Box, and was so in love I had to read Joe’s first book; it’s only out from PS Publishing at the moment, but I do believe that Morrow – mass market publisher of Heart Shaped Box [Subterranean published the limited edition] – will have an edition coming out soon).
- The Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror – 9th Annual Collection. These are wonderful anthologies with a terrific assortment of authors and stories; I believe they are on their 19th collection about now. The nice thing about this book (along with 20th Cen. Ghosts) is that I can finish what I’m reading (usually) before falling asleep…
- New Coyote, by Michael Bergey. I must admit, I am totally hooked on this story! It helps, of course, that I’m a fanatic about anything to do with coyotes, or the Native American character Coyote (and this story is a bit about both). Michael has woven a fun and engaging tale, and I highly recommend this book. It just so happens (shameless plug), that there’s a signed copy for sale on our site here.
- Perdido Street Station, by China Mieville. China is a wonderful – if cerebral – author and I find that it takes just a bit more concentration (and awareness, something I don’t often have before turning in) to read this fabulous book. As a result, my progress is considerably slower with this novel…
Hmm… this list isn’t particularly long, now that I’ve gotten it all down; I guess it’s just that the pile keeps threatening to overturn on me (horrors! must keep books pristine!).
So what are you reading??
