For those who don’t know, Withywindle Books is a home-based venture (gotta love cheap rent and a short commute) in north-central MA. We were hit hard by the ice storm this past Thursday (Dec. 11), and I spent a terrified night listening to tree limbs crash all around (and in one or two cases into) our house. The upshot is that our street (a very main road) looks like a bomb went off, with telephone poles snapped in two and trees and power lines all over the place. Surprisingly, here we are 6 days after the event, and not much has changed. My family and I spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights with friends and family, but were offered the use of a generator yesterday and jumped at the chance to finally be at home again. So I’m happy to report that we’re home and the bookstore is sort-of up and running: we have heat, hot water and limited electricity so we’re able to ship books out, but processing new inventory will have to wait. It was stressful being away from the store, and not able to access Withywindle’s email for days (with all the upheaval, trying to find a wi-fi location for the laptop had to take a backseat until Sunday). The good news: more wintery weather tonight and tomorrow including… you guessed it… freezing rain. Whoo-hoo!
Powerless!
