Richard Louv, author of The Nature Principle and Last Child in the Woods, is speaking at two events in Massachusetts this month, and will be in Maine and New York following – you can find his calendar of events on his website (richardlouv.com). The events in MA are free (as far as I can tell), and are a terrific opportunity to hear one of today’s foremost nature proponents speak on a really critical topic.
If you’re not already familiar with his work, Richard Louv coined the term ‘Nature Deficit-Disorder’, in relation to the growing trend of kids becoming more and more separated from the natural world – impacting their health and well-being, and also decreasing the number of potential adults to care about and advocate for the natural world. He’s also the founder of the Children and Nature Network – a really terrific website of resources for getting children and families engaged in nature.
Have you read Last Child in the Woods or the Nature Principle? Are you familiar with the important work Richard Louv is doing? How has he impacted how you teach, parent or advocate for nature?
I have read one, not the other…I hope people listen to this…Michelle
Richard Louv is a big name within the environmentalist world, but I don’t know how well-known he is outside of it. I hope that his message reaches as many people as possible, regardless of their background or beliefs.
