Welcome to the 10th edition of Windows on Wildlife! If you have a recent post about wildlife you’d like to share – it can be anything: birds, insects, mammals – scroll down to the end of the post and add your site; a compilation of all additions will be posted the following week. Please don’t forget to link back here (I’d love it if you’d add the Windows on Wildlife button on the sidebar to your post) and visit other blogs that have articles to share. Thanks for stopping by!
My husband has had a rather difficult time trying to capture our nesting Goldfinches on camera. Today, he finally had some success, and showed me the results as soon as I got home. I think this shot is my favorite of the bunch. He had one photo of the bird’s front, but it just looked so typical. Yeah, here’s a Goldfinch. But there’s something about this particular pose that caught my imagination. The distinct color of the bird’s black wings make the fact that they overlap a bit really stand out. With its head turned a bit to the side, you can just start to see the tip of its bill. It conjures an image of a man in a black suit, standing at the rail of a porch with his hands clasped behind his back, just meditatively taking in the view. Perhaps this photo should be titled, ‘Goldfinch in Repose’.
Another benifit to our lovely pollinator garden is the seed heads for the finches to feast on. I’m so glad they’re making use of the Echinacea and thistle we have growing. And the milkweed was a big hit this year – it attracted way more bees, butterflies and moths than last year.
Linking up this week with Our World Tuesday and Nature Notes.

Thanks Hanne!
I am visiting from Nature notes, I love the Goldfinches. Great capture.
Hi Eileen! Thanks for the visit, and yes, that was definitely a good capture of the Goldfinch. My husband was very pleased to see his photo get used almost immediately after he took it. 🙂
I need to get organized for Windows on Wildlife because I have so many I could share…I love this photo of the goldfinch. I see most of the nesting ball I put out for them has been picked at and it will be time to increase the number of thistle and sunflower hearts feeders for all the fledges…Thank you for linking up Cynthia..Michelle
Would love to have you join us for Windows on Wildlife – I think many, if not most of your posts would fit right in!
I’ve got a story for Windows on Wildlife next week. We had a fun visitor with us on our trip to NYC!
Also, I’m not sure you saw yet, but I passed the baton to you for a Hope blog relay, if you so choose to participate of course. 🙂 Here’s the link to the post: http://anotherjennifer.com/where-would-we-be-without-hope/
Super – can’t wait to read you wildlife post next week! Thank you for passing the Hope Blog Relay baton to me – I did see your post! I haven’t had time to sit and write a post for it yet, but I’m looking forward to it. I’m hoping to get it done this weekend!
No worries. It took me a week to do mine since I heard about it right as I was leaving for BlogHer. Can’t wait to read the post!
I like his choice of perch!
